River Fining down after last Flood - Huge run of Grilse & Salmon coming in
The river is now fining down nicely from the floods on July 5th. & 10th.
The clarity is excellent & the water is at a perfect fly-fishing height.
There was a huge run of grilse & salmon seen going thru' the beats on the lower river yesterday (Saturday, July 19),
the culmination of a run which has been building up steadily all week.
Fish were starting to take the fly well - best caught yesterday was 13.9lb.
With continuing dry weather, the prospects for the coming weeks are SUPERB!
For July to date - a total of 75 fish to 14.7lb. have been taken for 147 rod days, with the only 3 blank days being the 5-7th. July.
65 of these fish have been caught since July 8. Of these, 11 were over 10lb - averaging 11.7lb.,
27 were in the 5-10lb class - averaging 6.7lb, & the remainder were grilse averaging 3.5lb.
The overall average size for July is 6.5lb so far, compared to 5.7lb in 2007 for July.
This demonstrates yet again that the size of the fish is increasing now the nets are gone.
