Fly fishing for Atlantic Salmon on
Ireland's famous Blackwater River
Departure on Friday, April 18 from Atlanta, Georgia on Delta Air Lines arriving in
Shannon, Ireland Saturday morning April 19 , 2008.
One full week at the Blackwater Lodge including rooms with ensuite baths, private fishing
beats, license, group air fare on Delta Air Lines, ground transportation and breakfasts
during the stay. Non angler program available for those who do not fish. Box lunches
are available from the lodge and a variety of restaurants are nearby for Dinner.
Transportation to and from the beats and restaurants is provided. Shopping trips to Cork,
Blarney Castle, Fermoy and Lismore are planned for non-anglers and those who want to
take a break from angling.
Our quarry is the Atlantic Salmon and Munster's famous brown trout which are abundant
on the Blackwater River.
The Blackwater is the world's 3rd highest rod catch river just behind two Russian Rivers.
Drift netting in Ireland ended two years ago which enabled the salmon population to
boom. There is also an excellent opportunity for night fishing for sea run brown trout
which readily take small dark flies and daylight casting to browns during the frequent
hatches.
The famous Blackwater Lodge is run by Ian and Glenda Powell. Glenda is one of the top
ranked women fly casters in the world. Winner of numerous international angling
awards, Glenda is available for tuition instruction and guiding during our stay. Please let
us know as soon as possible if you would like to reserve time with Glenda as she is much
in demand.
The Blackwater Lodge has a full tackle shop with a terrific selection of flies that are
constantly updated to ensure you have the perfect fly to present to the salmon. Ian will be
happy to assist you in the shop and he can also help you obtain a gillie if you would like to
take have someone show you the details of fishing a particular beat.
The Lodge also has facilities to smoke and/or vacuum pack your catch so you can have
that memorable fresh salmon taste to share with the folks back home while you regale
them with tales of your angling adventure battling giant salmon.
We will depart Shannon Airport the following Saturday, April 26 arriving back in Atlanta
that Saturday evening.
Cost Per Person (double occupancy) is $2,800.00 for anglers. Non-anglers $2,200.00
