Toccoa River gives up big
Browns in winter months.
Bill and Josh Robbs had a great time on the lower
Toccoa River this past week! Bill took a 23 1/2 " Brown
on a number 8 Prince Nymph... better let him tell you in
his own words with pictures to boot!
Guys,
I was in the store last Wednesday getting some info on how the Toccoa was
fishing and getting a few flies for my 12/04/09 trip. I have included a few
pics of that trip my son and I took including one of the 23 1/2" Brown I
caught. The fish was caught on a #8 prince nymph about 3:00 pm before
high water reached Horseshoe Bend. The fish was really strong, it took me
to the backing 3 times. The first time it took me within 10 yards of the
spool. Anyway, thanks again for the good advice I always get from the good
people at Feather and Fly.

Great job, Bill and congratulations on that trophy fish!
Tellico and North River are still loaded with hungry fish.
Chris Zahnd and I were up at the Tellico and the North River a few days
ago. Despite the cold mist and high water, the rivers were clear and we took
several nice brookies up to 14 inches (brightly colored) on Zahnd Special
streamers. The current was fast and the streamers had to be right down in
the "zone" which meant weighted! My best fish was an 18 inch rainbow
that took a Barnsley Ghost streamer hanging in the current while Chris and I
were talking. Now is the perfect time to hit the upper stretches of the
mountain rivers. They clear quickly after rain and the fish are building
resources to get them through the winter. Come by the shop and load up on
streamers and large nymphs. Sink tip lines will be a real asset, too.
